In order to deepen students’ first-hand learning experience, we offer a variety of visits of local faith communities and religious places throughout the semester, which include:
The Department organizes study tours to various places. The Dunhuang-Xinjiang Study Tour is a special joint programme co-organized by the Department of Religion and Philosophy, HKBU and the School of History and Culture, Lanzhou University. The ten-day tour offers a unique opportunity through which students learn about and experience a variety of religious and intra-cultural traditions.
The Europe Study Tour, which aims to provide an excellent way for students to get first-hand information about religious issues and enjoy a unique learning experience, broadening their horizons of understanding western European countries and enriching their knowledge of different historical periods of Christianity.
Besides the above summer tours, we also organize short trips outside Hong Kong during the semesters, such as Guangzhou and Macau, to explore different religious activities in the neighbouring region.
This programme is aimed at providing an enrichment through immersion in the contemporary intellectual dialogue between science and religion, facilitated by the professional staff of The Faraday Institute and Cambridge University faculty. Students will be accommodated in one of the Cambridge Colleges.
This is a credit-bearing program that allows students to take 12-17 credits during a semester spent abroad at the University of Notre Dame. Students also have the option of spending a full academic year at Notre Dame. Students take classes offered by the College of Arts & Letters, College of Science, College of Engineering, and School of Architecture. They will be given an official Notre Dame transcript upon the completion of the program. Students will be able to select their courses after they are admitted to the program.
The Department organizes Summer Internship Programme for our students since 2002 to work in NGOs (Non-governmental Organisations), social enterprises, offices of Legislative Councilors, and institutions from public and private sectors. Students can widen their exposure through working, relate the real life with their studies, gain valuable working experience and be able to identify their career path after graduation.
Our students achieve a high standard of academic excellence and have received a number of awards and scholarships. These awards and scholarships show the integration of academic achievement with other aspects of their lives, including leadership and community service. Religion and Philosophy Society is an independent society run by enthusiastic major undergraduate students of our Department every year. The Society establishes close connection with the Department, and serves as a bridge of communication between the Department and students. The Society and the Department jointly organize the High Table Dinner every year as well as other extra-curricular activities. Students can reflect their opinion and concern on the programme and the Department and vice versa from time to time, thus encouraging mutual communication and improving students’ learning experience in our Department.
In addition, students can also experience close student-teacher relationship, which is a unique feature in our Department. A lot of gatherings and learning opportunities, such as Orientation Day, gatherings at professor’s home, Christmas party, Chinese New Year gathering, Sports Day, High Tea, Career Talk, CV Writing Workshop, Study Group etc., will be organized throughout the year, some of which are collaborating with the student society.
