浸会大学获捐资300万港元 推行「4E全人服务领袖计划」及「现代教育哲学及东亚文化更新研讨会」
HKBU has received a generous donation of HK$3 million from the Tin Ka Ping Foundation in support of the University’s service-learning projects and a conference series promoting its vision of whole person education. The project, the “4E Whole Person Servant Leadership Programme”, is organised by the University’s Office of Student Affairs while the conference series is held by the Department of Religion and Philosophy.
In celebration of Dr Tin Ka Ping’s 100th birthday, the Tin Ka Ping Foundation donated HK$3 million each to nine universities in Hong Kong to support their academic and student development and their advocacy of the Foundation’s mission that “China’s future lies in education”.
A Sharing Session on Mainland Service-Learning Projects was held on 26 January 2018 attended by more than 100 guests, students and staff. The officiating guests included The Tin Ka Ping Foundation Board Chairman Mr Tin Hing-sin, Vice Chairman Mr Tai Hay-lap, Directors Mr Tin Wing-sin and Dr Yuen Pong-yiu, HKBU Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) Dr Albert Chau, Associate Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) cum Academic Registrar Professor Ricky Wong, Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation Mrs Lily Chan and Assistant Director of Student Affairs Mr Tony Chan.
At the Session, Mr Tin Hing-sin said that the Foundation values the strong partnership it has developed with HKBU over the years. Dr Tin’s engagement with HKBU dates back to his friendship with President Emeritus Dr Daniel Tse, who led the then Hong Kong Baptist College to university status in 1994. He said the Foundation and the University share the same vision in promoting whole person education. He expressed his sincere wish that the “4E Whole Person Servant Leadership Programme” and the conference series relating to whole person education will benefit more students, academics and educators and further strengthen the University’s positioning on the importance of holistic education.
In his address, Dr Albert Chau expressed his heartiest gratitude to the Tin Ka Ping Foundation for its longstanding support for the University. He said Dr Tin Ka-ping is a well-respected philanthropist and an exemplary role model for the younger generation. The collaboration with the Foundation is significant as the service-learning programmes on the Mainland enable HKBU students to broaden their horizons and to gain a better understanding of the history, culture and development of Mainland China. It is in line with the Foundation’s mission to improve the quality of education by promoting moral education, Chinese culture, and integration with the rest of the world as well as benefiting Mainland China. On behalf of the University, Dr Chau expressed the best wishes to Dr Tin for a very happy birthday and may he be blessed with good health and a long life.
A total of 38 students from HKBU participated in the Mainland service-learning projects. At the Session, three students shared the invaluable experiences they gained from serving-learning projects in Shaoguan and Sichuan in December 2017. Over eight days they provided voluntary teaching services in emotional intelligence and led a variety of experiential activities and workshops such as making carrier bags out of recycled T-shirts. Videos were shown to share the students’ happy moments during their tours and to express their heartfelt appreciation to the donor.
The “4E Whole Person Servant Leadership Programme” is a three-year programme that nurtures students to become outstanding 4E leaders, with 4E standing for Explore, Experience, Engage and Educating the Heart. Around 250 students are expected to join service-learning activities each year, benefiting over 5,000 people in Hong Kong, Mainland China and countries and regions including Taiwan, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, India, Singapore, Malaysia and Cambodia.
