Accountants are busy people. When we talk about ethical dilemmas in the accountancy profession, often we approach them from a pragmatic angle. However, there are many resources from philosophical ethics that can be of use when we consider how to approach these different dilemmas. This will help us think through ethical issues in a more systematic and comprehensive manner, providing a basis and supporting our thought process for making ethical decisions.
In this talk, Dr Gillian Chu, FCPA, FCCA and Dr Baldwin Wong will
1) share the philosophical ethics frameworks;
2) lead the attendees to think about the case studies from both philosophical and practitioners’ perspectives.
3) introduce Hong Kong Baptist University’s Centre for Applied Ethics and its resources available for accountants and the general public;
AWAHK is co-organising this event with the Centre of Applied Ethics (CAE), Hong Kong Baptist University. CAE strives to stimulate critical thinking about fundamental ethical concerns in contemporary society, to raise awareness of moral values, and to further strengthen the University’s commitment to research and whole-person education.
