CHIANG Yi Mei (Year 2 student)

God brought me to an amazing and unbelievable place. It is the best experience in my whole life. I went to University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas, USA.

I never thought I could go to the US to study; it¡¦s like a place out of my imagination. I could not believe it until I saw the US airport from the airplane. This was also the first time I had left my own country. Actually I had no idea about the US, and I had never heard about the school I went. Everything regarding the arrangement was out of my control. I could not know what would be the next step. All I knew was that God would lead my way.

Life in the US is really not that hard. I never was home sick. Although the place I went to was just a small town, it was not boring. I meet different people and learned new things everyday. The school was really big for me; I got lost trying to find the lecture room on the first day class. As a result, I was 30 minutes late to class! The teacher was very nice; however, and said ¡§It happens sometimes,¡¨ and told me to find a seat. The classes there were easier than in Hong Kong: They do not care about exams so much, but they do care about homework. I had to prepare many papers every week, but they were not too hard, and in the US most of the teachers don¡¦t care about the grammar.

Besides studying, I liked to hang out with friends. Compared with Hong Kong, the city of San Antonio is just a small town. There were not that many people there or fun things to do, but it was not boring. I made friends with people from many different parts of the world, such as Korea, Japan, Mainland China, Taiwan, Russia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Austria, Holland, Turkey, Iran, Israel, Palestine, Uganda, South Africa, Mexico, Columbia, Brazil, and of course the USA. I found they were very nice people, and so I began to learn about many different cultures and languages from them. That¡¦s why I never felt bored.

This year away remains a good memory for me; I learned many things and came to know lots of new friends. I really want to thank my Department and my School for giving me this great chance!

And I hope more and more classmates will become interested in this program as a result of my own experience.
